Harford Legacy Farms

Ruffs Chance Farm, Bel Air

Why is 100 years of family ownership something worth celebrating? The answer is simple. Because it’s hard.

The Farmers & Community Partnership of Harford County and its members, especially the Harford Community College, Harford County Farm Bureau, Harford Soil Conservation District, Harford Land Trust, and Harford County Government, worked to identify, recognize, and celebrate Harford Legacy Farms in 2022 and 2023 in celebration of Harford County’s 250th anniversary.

Farm families were asked to self-nominate their properties as Legacy Farms on the basis of the following three criteria.

  • Continuously owned by the same family for 100 years or more
  • At least 10 acres of the original purchase, and
  • Actively farmed

Harford Legacy Farm Commemorative Booklet

Sixty-one of Harford County’s Legacy Farms were recognized at a celebration on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Harford County Equestrian Center. This modest history of Harford Legacy Farms was prepared and shared at the celebration as a tribute to our agricultural community.

Commemorative Booklets are available for $10 at the HLT office (22 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Suite 2 Bel Air, MD 21014) and the Harford County Agricultural Center (3525 Conowingo Rd Suite 700, Street, MD 21154).
