Thank you, Peter Hegeman,
For Advancing the Work of The Trust

From its beginning in 1991, the Trust has succeeded because of the many professional skills that its Directors and other volunteers have brought to its mission. It would be easy to overlook that they also have real lives outside this conservation organization.
In June, Peter R. Hegeman informed the Board of Directors that the growth of his computer software firm requires so much of his time that he can no longer give the Trust the service it deserves, and so he must resign from his position on the board. For example, the projects of his client in Baltimore City, Struever Brothers Eccles & Rouse, Inc. (also a Corporate Sponsor of the Trust) have increased so much that he goes almost daily to Baltimore.

Peter brought many relevant skills and interests to the Trust in 1999, when he stepped in to take the seat of his late father, Johnston N. Hegeman, the founding president of the Trust.

His past work as a reporter for The Record and as a freelance writer for The Baltimore Sun and other publications has served the Trust well. For many years he has composed and produced the annual mail campaign to raise contributions and Members' dues for the Trust. His gift with words produced generous responses from the Trust's Members and supporters; so much so that one of them quipped, "When I read Peter's annual letters for the Harford Land Trust, I feel an irresistible urge to go to my checkbook and send a donation!" In addition, Peter's enlistment of his wife, Pat Egan, in the preparation of these campaigns meant that the Trust also benefits from her skills as the past Associate Director of Baltimore's "Center Stage," Director of the Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence, R. I., and a consultant to the Creative Alliance, Inc., board of the Everyman Theater and to institutions such as the Yale University Drama School. The Directors rejoice in their professional successes but hope (and intend) to call them for help in the future.
