Coming in January 2009
For 17 years, our members have been the backbone of the Harford Land Trust. Never exceeding one staff person, we rely on volunteers to plan and implement long-term land conservation strategies, manage the lands we own, monitor the properties on which we hold easements, fund our operations, donate equipment, and to finance land projects. We applaud you for your outstanding success and support.

Gifts That Pay Tribute | Print |
Monday, 29 December 2008
When we think of giving gifts to our favorite charities, most of us think of the annual appeal and renewing our memberships in organizations like the Harford Land Trust. Have you ever considered a gift that pays tribute to someone’s accomplishment? We all have friends who have come to a point in their lives where they just don’t want any more material items for their birthday or Christmas, but would love to have a membership in the land trust, receive a newsletter, and know they are helping to preserve the farms, forests, and urban green pockets of a special place. Over the last year, several of our members were honored by gifts in their name by others just for being a special person.

Think of the possibilities when you could honor someone special on a happy occasion – or just to let them know you are thinking of them -- and also help to further the goals of HLT. Consider an honorary gift for anniversaries, job promotions, receiving an advanced degree, renewing wedding vows, retirement, welcoming a new neighbor -- the list is endless! The Trust notifies those that have been honored and the donor receives a tax deduction.

As sad as they are, memorial gifts are lasting gifts that truly honor someone and give the family a sense of ongoing goodness and accomplishment in this world.

We hope you will consider us for all the memorable occasions in life that need recognition.

Fall Foliage Hike on Kelly Property | Print |

Not too many miles north of Eden Mill lies a stretch of land cloaked in woods and hidden from the world. Undulating hills, some rather steep and mountainous, encircle a pure and winding stream called Big Branch that rushes down towards Deer Creek further south. In several areas it takes its time to relax a moment forming lonely, quiet ponds that riffle off to the next adventurous plunge. This unique area provides a rare glimpse of what geologists refer to as Piedmont, and though it exists much further east than its larger well-known brethren, the Appalachian Mountains, you definitely feel like you’re walking the trails of the western Maryland region. Some unknown quirk of glacial upheaval tens of thousands of years ago created this fascinating portion of classic hills, rocks, and flowing water to replicate the gorgeous and unique qualities of classic Piedmont landscape.
